Honda was the world’s leading motorcycle manufacturer when they decided to produce a car for the American market. This first car, the N600 sedan, known simply as “The Honda Car” was sold through Honda’s existing motorcycle dealership network.
The N600 was simply fun, and it came standard with Honda reliability. Smaller than a 1960s Mini Cooper with an air-cooled, all-aluminum 36 hp, 2-cylinder engine, it was a technological marvel featuring overhead valves, a roller bearing crank and hemispherical combustion chambers. The same people who designed the race-winning 3 liter, V12 Formula 1 engine designed the N600.
It's the car that paved the way for the Civic.
